I started a website a couple of years ago to publish all the information I had collated from various web searches, field expeditions and trips to the British Library to pour over the Baths and Baths Engineering magazines from the early 20th century.
Having created most of my websites in Dreamweaver maybe 15-20 years ago, I like some aspects of products such as Wix and Squarespace but I get annoyed at the lack of flexibility. I’m sure these services are great if you create websites for a living but I don’t so I have not got the time to learn.
As the renewal of my Squarespace site and domain approached, I thought I’d go old school and see if I could remember my Dreamweaver skills from all those years ago.
I have created a new site www.lidosandpools.uk and it is just a holding page right now. I probably should have created the structure and some basic content before uploading but I haven’t so there you are!
I should get my act together reasonably quickly but there will be many months of converting the data and images to become a decent resource.
Also, in London, we are getting two new lidos soon. Redbridge is apparently reversing the mistake of years ago and are reinstating the Valentines Park lido in almost the same position. Meanwhile, Waltham Forest is building a new lido at Low Hall Sports Ground but I think this one is somewhat further behind in the process.
My old Squarespace title of “Documenting open, closed, derelict and disappeared lidos” will now have to be extended to include NEW lidos.
